Shawn M. Johnson is the founder and CEO of Music On The Move, LLC. She is a classically trained musician and the daughter of a New Orleans music legend. She began playing the piano at the age of three and violin at the age of five. Throughout her childhood she garnered many accolades and awards in various local music competitions, began accompanying public middle and high school choirs by the age of nine, and culminated her adolescent musical endeavors with a second-place finish in the Tourgee DeBose National Piano Competition held at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She was awarded a scholarship to Loyola University in New Orleans, LA where she majored in Music Therapy.
Shawn has been teaching piano since the age of seventeen, and later added violin and voice to her list of instrument proficiencies. Her teaching experience spans over 40 years, yet her passion and dedication to sharing the gift of music with her students remains paramount today. Many of her students have gone on to major in music performance and music education.
The teaching style employed by Music On The Move, LLC emphasizes theory, rhythm, sightreading, and musical expression, but most importantly, primarily focuses on the correlation of academic and creative disciplines during the primary years in order to achieve maximum cognitive development through artistic expression. While classical music is used as the primary foundation, current and trending musical selections that students will both enjoy and identify with are also incorporated into the curriculum.
The ultimate goal of the Music On the Move, LLC is to engage students in such a way that they acquire a heightened desire for academic achievement and are inspired with a passion and appreciation for music that will last a lifetime.
